The gospel of John aims to present Jesus as the Messiah and the Son of God. It also focus on Jesus life so that we come to believe in Him through faith.
John presents 7 miracles of Jesus. John, however states that Jesus did many other signs. However, those are written so that we can believe that Jesus is Christ, the Son of God, and by doing so, we can be saved.
"Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name." John 20:30-31
Verse 1 starts with the expression "In the beginning was the Word". This same expression is used in Genesis 1:1. It refers to beginning of creation. The Word using capital letter refers to Jesus, as He is the Logos of God. This part emphasizes the eternal and divine pre-existence of Jesus.
Next, John clearly states that the Logos was with God and the Logos was God. Jesus, the second person of trinity, was not created by God, which John makes even more clear when he says that all things were made through Him. Jesus was at beginning with God as John states two times and without him not a thing would be made.
So, what then? Jesus is God, He is the Son of God and the Messiah, He whom had to come to satisfy the holy justice of God the father. Only He was able to fulfill God's law perfectly, and pay the price for our sins.
